Facebook's first phone was unveiled just a few days ago, but the APK that can Facebookify your Android's homescreen has already leaked online. The only problems? The list of devices it'll work on is pretty short and it's a bit of a buggy experience.
If those warnings don't deter, you though, you may want to read on. According to Phandroid, the Facebook Home APK should work on any device so long as it doesn't have a maximum resolution higher than 1280 x 768p. This excludes any phone with a 1080p display. You must also have a version of the official app pre-installed. You'll also need to be able to install third-party APKS.
If you want to give it a go, check out Modaco's download links for the full enchilada – you're going to need to download Facebook's "katana" APK, the separate "porca" messenger APK and the APK for Facebook Home. Install 'em as you would any other third-party APK and you'll be all set.
If you're rooted, you need to follow these instructions:
- Find the location of Facebook in your system partition (e.g. /system/app/Facebook.apk or perhaps /system/app/Facebook_Client.apk)
- Delete said file (after backing it up!)
- Reboot device
- Install Facebook from the Play Store then uninstall it
- Install above APKs
According to a Reddit user, if you leave it installed and set your regular launcher as the default, Facebook Home will function as a lockscreen only – pretty great if you'd like to keep your previous widgets.
